Jazzy B, Diljit Dosanjh and Honey Singh Amrinder Gill Gippy Grewal Latest Move And Music 2013

Chandigarh/Jalandhar, Punjab (January 02, 2012): It is learnt that some women awareness groups have demanded arrest of Punjabi singers namely Jazzy B, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Diljit Dosanjh.

“Terming their songs as offensive, vulgar, provocative and deplorable, ‘Istri Jagriti Manch’, a women’s awareness group, has demanded arrest of famous Punjabi singers Jazzy B, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Diljit Dosanjh” YesPunjab has reporte

Jazzy B, Diljit Dosanjh and Honey Singh

Severely criticizing the content of the lyrics of the songs sung by these singers, the women’s group has reportedly asked the government to book and arrest them under ‘Indecent representation of Women Act 1986’.

The Act prohibits indecent representation of women through any means.

‘Istri Jagriti Manch’ president Charanjit Kaur Barnala and General Secretary Amandeep Kaur Deol said that the crime graph in the state was on the rise and number of cases of rapes and kidnappings were going up.

Terming the content of the lyrics of these singers as ‘intolerable’ the women leaders said that it was the need of the hour that the singers polluting the atmosphere of the society be put behind bars.

IJM representatives said that even as there was a national outrage against rapes and kidnappings the singers were singing songs provoking the youth to indulge in such crime and indecent behaviour.

He said Honey Singh was singing a song like ‘Main Hun Balatkari’ while Diljit Dosanjh has a song which goes saying ‘Oye Aaja Tainu Kidnap Karan Sohniye’.

They alleged that to top it all Jazzy B has come out with a song ‘Muni nu Manga lao ji, Addhe paise paa lao ji, Kunde Jinde laa lao ji’.

Alleging that the songs and their presentation was anti-women and against the established norms and ethos of the society, the Women Group said that the singers were only after name and fame and had nothing to do with or contribute to the society. Instead, they were giving a wrong message to the youth, which unfortunately follows them.

It is notable that Istri Jagriti Manch has launched a campaign against singers who are representing women in a derogatory manner in their songs, lyrics or videos.

Yo Yo Honey Singh Rap Star 2013 Latest Movie Music About Punjabi Culture Girl Respect

For all of those who have been copiously trying Psy’s Oppa Gangnam Style! steps,it’s time to learn some Bhangra now.India’sPunajabi rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has clenched the top spot on the list of the most watched videos of 2012 in India.Honey Singh’s video Brown Raang from the album International Villager has become the most popular Indian video on Youtube in 2012 with around 90 lakh hits. The rapper gained mainstream Bollywood recognition with the song Angrezi Beat from the film Cocktail, however, much before that he was quite a phenomenon on the web and was ruling night clubs too. And let’s not forget the Punjabi Weddings with songs like High Heels and Check  Lak 28 Kudi Da. Infact, his song Lak 28 Kudi Da reached No 1 in BBC Asian Download Charts in May 2011.230323_434777133258889_1461068436_nYoutube revealed that this year’s most watched video in India has been selected not just on the basis of views, but the number of shares and searches as well since likes have also been taken into account.YouTube in a press release said, “this year, we looked not just at views, but also shares, searches, likes and responses to identify the 10 videos that everybody was talking about in 2012. On YouTube people don’t just view a popular video, they remix, share, and parody, building a fan community that extends far beyond the watch page. We took all of this into account to ensure we truly captured the watercooler moments of the year.”

Popular youth icon Yo Yo Honey Singh has come under the scanner for his misogynistic lyrics. A petition filed by Kalpana Misra via Change.org appeals for a ban on the Punjabi rapper’s New Year’s eve performance. The International Villager, as he likes to call himself, is scheduled to perform at Hotel Bristol in Gurgaon today.

The 28-year-old rapper hails from Hoshiarpur and has studied at the School of Trinity, London (as the rapper’s official website suggests. He has mostly sung songs in a mix of Punjabi/English and won international awards like the Brit Asia Best International Act 2012 and the UK AMA Best International Album 2012. He has also sung songs in recent and popular Bollywood films like Khiladi 786, Cocktail and Luv Shuv Te Chicken Khurana.

So what exactly is the hullabaloo about? On his way to stardom he has penned some seriously lewd lyrics earning him the horrendous nickname – Rape Rapper. There’s a song by the name of Main Hoon Balaatkari to his credit, then there’s another one called, well read it for yourselves:

The lyrics of the song C***:
Aja teri ch*** maroon
Tere sir se chu**** ka bhoot utaroon
Cho**** key baad tujhe jutey maroon
Tere mooh main apna l*** dey key mo*** maroon (yeah)

The literal translation of the song roughly comes to this:
Come, I’ll f*** you,
Exorcise you of the ghost of getting f*****,
After f****** you, I’ll hit you with a shoe,
I’d put my d*** in your mouth, and then p*** on you

Yes, those are the lyrics of the song and the video features skimpily clad women who look all to happy to oblige Mr Honey Singh. After reading it we hope you will sign the petition, which had garnered 742 supporters when we last checked has been going viral on the social networking sites. Sign the petition here

Honey Singh Trashers
Twitter veterans with a number of followers seemed to support the petition unanimously, even lambasting the 28-year-old rapper and equating his lyrics to ‘Rape Rap’. These tweets were the top ones that featured in the search.

Journalist Seema Goswami directly linked the lyrics to violence agaist women to as she wrote, “All those telling us to *ignore* Honey Singh’s *rape rap* do remember that this kind of misogyny is what results in violence against women.” Nilanjana Roy posted a link to the petition, tweeting: Why women don’t want to celebrate the new year with Honey Singh: Neha Kaul’s petition…

Renowned journalist and Rude Food columnist Vir Sanghvi called for a strong boycott against the hotel if they didn’t called the show off. He wrote on his Twitter wall: For God’s sake, Bristol Hotel. Cancel the Honey Singh show. Are you guys in the rape business or the hotel business?

He later added, “If the Bristol does not cancel the Honey Singh show then I would urge every decent Indian to boycott the hotel.”

Comedian Tanmay Bhat said, “Bringing Honey Singh into this discussion is giving his songs too much dignity. They’re offensive to every sensibility and not just women.”

Honey Singh Supporters
However, even as Honey Singh trends on Twitter, not all tweets favour the petition, in fact, many have come out in support of the controversial rapper.

@aadyaaluvs_1D
but thing is senseless.. people can’t catch the victim so let us all blame “Honey Singh” ehh, damn you people!

@itsaditya1

@KirtikaChandani
If u ban Honey Singh, then pls ban Ekta Kapoor, Mallika Sherawat, Sunny Leone, Salman khan. They all offend my sensibilities.

However, whether Hotel Bristol takes the action demanded by the petitioners or decides to look the other way and go with the show, remains to be seen.
A city angry over the gang rape and murder of the 23-year-old physiotherapist forced Punjabi rapper Honey Singh, whose lyrics have been described as profane and misogynistic, in to calling off his New Year eve concert at a Gurgaon hotel on Monday.

An online petition filed by Delhi-based writer and blogger Kalpana Misra was in circulation calling for the concert to be cancelled as the rapper’s lyrics, replete with sexual innuendoes, virtually glorify sexually brutalising women. An FIR was also registered against the rapper in Lucknow for “offensive lyrics”.

“I decided not to perform on New Year eve to express my grief for the unfortunate girl,” the rapper, born in Hoshiarpur in Punjab and brought up in the UK, told HT.

“Aap bolo to mein India Gate par chal kar abhi candle jalaun. Mujhe awam ne banaya hai aur mein unke saath hoon (If you want I can go light a candle at India Gate. People have made me and I’ll always be with them.)

His song Main Hun Balatkari (I am a rapist), which he now claims he hasn’t sung, has come in for severe criticism.

The murder of the young woman, which outraged the Capital and the country with a many people opting for candlelight processions to New Year parties, has forced us to look inside — as individuals and society.

Popular culture of which music is an integral part is under scrutiny too. Honey Singh, or Yo Yo Honey Singh as he is known to his fans- and there are lots of them- is seen as part of a worrying trend towards accepting sexist music.

“Music does have an impact on people’s mind. There are some innuendos and sexist remarks in songs that people like and relate to,” said Dr Shelja Sen, adolescent and child psychologist at Children First, a mental health centre in Safdarjung Enclave.

But not all agree. “I know protests are on against for his vulgar songs but we need to realise that this is just entertainment,” said 21-year-old Nupur, adding she was part the anti-rape protests at Jantar Mantar as well.
Bhangra-pop singer-rapper Honey Singh claims he is a victim of a vicious smear campaign launched by his rivals to finish off his rising career as India’s foremost live entertainer.

Shaken and nonplussed, Honey didn’t know what hit him when, on Monday hours before the new year was ushered in with telling somberness, he was targeted viciously for his allegedly anti-woman misogynist songs, especially a number offensively titled “Main Hoon Ek Balaatkari”.

The song’s title and “message” have offended a nation reeling under the impact of the heinous gang-rape in Delhi that took the victim’s life last week.

A virulent campaign to boycott Honey Singh and his music was launched on several micro-blogging sites. An FIR was also lodged against Honey for obscenity in Lucknow. To top it all, on New Year’s eve Honey’s proposed concert in Gurgaon had to be cancelled due to pressures from the outside.

Fearing for his life, in a startling revelation made exclusively to this writer Honey Singh claims the offensive song is not his at all.

“I swear on my music, I’ve neither written nor sung those offensive songs. I’d never dream of singing a song in praise of rape. The thought is nauseating to me. I’d rather give up singing than attain popularity in such cheap and cheesy ways,” he said.

“I respect women…What I am going through is another form Of rape,” Honey Singh said.

Honey says the song has been released on the internet by an imposter. “I’ve sent notices to Youtube and other websites which have uploaded the offensive number. I am shocked that such a song could even be believed to be mine. I come from a family where women are respected. And I’d never disrespected women by espousing rape.”

Honey also claims that the other obscene song entitled “Ch..t” which has been floating on the internet for years under his name is not his.

“I completely disown both these obscene numbers. I’ve nothing to do with them. My lawyers are trying to find out who’s doing this to malign me. I’m being targeted for a rape of another kind altogether. What is being done to me is among the lowest of violation of human dignity,” he said.

Honey says the smear campaign is being undertaken by jealous rivals. “They can’t bear to see a villager from Hoshiarpur like me become so successful. My fans know the truth. I’d never disrespect women. I have been brought up to treat women with courtesy and dignity,” he said.

The worried rapper who is popular in north India finds the timing of the tirade against him to be suspicious.

“Just when the country is reeling under the impact of the ghastly rape crime a song about rape is being attributed to me. And another song that I have been fighting for years to have removed as my doing, is in the public eye. I am being targeted for wrongs that I didn’t commit,” he said.

Honey feels he is being made a target to divert attention from the real issue.

“Atrocities against women are happening all around us. Why are my songs suddenly being seen as a root-cause of evil? If music could actually cause damage shouldn’t songs like ‘Bande Mataram’ and ‘Ae mere watan ke logon’ prevent Indians from hurting fellow-human beings?” he asked.

Angry, hurt, wounded and perplexed by the sudden swerve in his career Honey said: “I’d request politicians to stop diverting attention from the actual issues that effect the country. Please stop resorting to soft targets like singers and musicians as scapegoats. If anyone can prove I’m behind those anti-women songs I’m ready to give up music.”

Meanwhile sources close to the musician say Honey Singh has been receiving death threats and is under the constant vigilance of his personal security staff.

Honey is under the moral scanner not only from a nation in no mood for anti-women pop-culture, but also from his own family.

“I come from a business family. I rebelled from my father to become a musician. Now after hearing of these filthy songs my father called me up to ask, ‘Beta, did you take to music to do this kind of thing?’ I’d never shame my family, my country, the women of my country and myself,” he said.

Tell him that his songs have gone ultra-viral since the scandal broke out Honey retorted: “I’m sorry. But I am not interested in getting cheap popularity. I’ve earned my success through sincere hard work.”

“And that’s the only success I want. Do you know I’ve sung a song about Bhagat Singh? How come no one knows about this song? Why are we only interested in scandalous controversial things?” he asked.
Honey says he knows the people behind this smear campaign launched against him. “I’m a village boy who has gone international. Other singers trying the same haven’t been able to achieve the same. They are unhappy with my success,” he said.
Today when I see musicians sitting judgement over my music, asking for my ban, in panel discussions on television I feel sorry for them. I’m sorry to say they’re just exploiting the memory of the girl who was a victim of that heinous crime. My fans are with me. They believe in me. That’s all that matters,” he said.
Honey Singh also known as Yo! Yo! Honey Singh is a Punjabi rapper and music producer. Initially he was a session and recording artist, later he climbed the ladder of success and became a Bhangra producer. He has studied music at the prestigious School of Trinity (London). Singh has received the ETC award for the Best sound in 2006 for “Glassi” as well as The PTC award for The Best Folk Pop Award 2009 for “Rebirth” and PTC PUNJABI Best Music Director 2011. His song Angreji Beat sung by him & Gippy Grewal, originally from Honey Singh’s Album International Villager released in November 2011 has been used in the film Cocktail and has given him a good platform in Bollywood. Yo Yo Honey Singh is all se to explore his acting skills in an upcoming Punjabi Movie Mirza- The Untold Story. He is entering to B-Town with his song “Mujhe

The gang rape and death of a 23-year-old woman in New Delhi this month has sparked debates on many things from an Indian society centered on the well being of men to the tendency of Bollywood films to portray women largely as mothers or sex objects. Now, some of that criticism is sticking to Punjabi rap star Honey Singh.
Singh, whom the Indian media have called a youth icon, is facing calls for a ban on his New Year’s Eve performance at a hotel in Gurgaon, the massive suburb southwest of Delhi – and as this blog post heads out the door, NDTV reports that the show indeed has been cancelled.
Singh’s detractors say that some of his songs are misogynistic and promote a permissive and casual attitude to sexual assault.
I happen to agree. Here’s a sample:
Aja teri ch**t maroon
Tere sir se chu***y ka bhoot utaroon
Cho***ey key baad tujhe jutey maroon
Tere mooh main apna lo** dey key mo** maroon (yeah)
Loose translation of this in English would be:
Come let me f**k you,
Let me get lust off your head
Let me beat you up with my shoes after f**king u
Let me come in your mouth
Why would a democracy ban artistic expression? I know that we have a censor board for film and television, but banning the artist doesn’t diminish the market’s desire for the product. Opposing the attitude toward women in Singh’s lyrics means asking for a refund for your ticket to his show, or simply not showing up. It means not buying more of his music or watching films in which it appears.
I tried to contact Honey Singh via Twitter and e-mail to know what he thinks about the ongoing controversy. However, the requests remain unanswered at the time of posting this blog.
But more significantly, I want to know why this is coming up today. Indian kids have been grooving to songs like “Ch**t” (“Cu*t”) for years. Did it take a woman being raped, beaten and partially disemboweled to wake up these kids, many of whom are protesting the attitude of millions upon millions of people who think about as much of a woman as the title of that song? Did anyone ever think that nearly seven years of that message seeping into the ears of the people, especially men who harass women, was doing slow damage on its own?

A recent local media report said Singh’s was the most popular music on YouTube. Another website said he received 7 million rupees (more than $127,000) for a Bollywood song, apparently the first singer ever to be signed for such a high fee.

This is because the people with the paycheck have made a bet, and not all that risky a one, that people like you and I want to hear him. That’s true. He’s a celebrity because lots of people like his work. They think it’s fun to dance to. Here’s a sample.

Maybe the Indian public is having its version of a “Sister Souljah moment”.

Some of the talk on Twitter suggests that people should spend their time looking at other ways to deal with the problem of how India treats women. Ashish Shakya (@stupidusmaximus) tweeted “You guys are giving Honey Singh way too much importance. He’s inconsequential. Let’s talk about something else. Muffins?”

“Honey Singh is the new Sachin Tendulkar,” said Saurabh Malhotra (@CricMS). To be blamed for everything totally irrelevant to him”.

Honey Singh, above all else, is one more piece of the puzzle that India must solve to radically and quickly update its fundamental views toward women. One of the ways to do that is to think about why we can separate our desire for social justice from our desire to listen to songs called “Ch**t.”
It might be a good question for Singh to ask himself. Here’s his tweet from Dec. 29 about the rape case: “#RIPDAMINI – ashamed to be an Indian where the BIGGEST democracy in the world can’t PROTECT our women!!” The artist has discovered irony.
Following angry reactions to offensive lyrics of the track “Ch**t”, Honey Singh’s lawyer issued a statement Monday on the singer’s behalf.
Honey Singh wishes to clarify through this notice that he has no connection whatsoever with the said songs. My client has already written to various digital platforms to immediately take down the video/songs and is also considering appropriate legal action for defamation, loss of reputation and violation of privacy”. (Read here)Left unanswered in the coverage that we’ve seen so far is whether Singh and his team are saying that he didn’t even sing the song. We’re trying to find out, and will update as soon as possible.Singh, meanwhile, says he’s making a new kind of honey. The rapper tweeted, “#HoneySinghIsInnocent – trend if you’re with me! I’ve admitted that my past was a wrong choice but now I deliver completely different music!”
